Decay Series
The theme surrounding this body of work is decay. The general definition of the word decay is the state of decomposition, or the process of decline in quality, power, or vigor. The motif of decay, as well as death, is evident throughout history and remains a reminder of the inevitability of death. However, what happens when we do not look at life after death, but to the objects and things that we leave behind? How does the view of decay change? The idea of decay is not only applied to plants and animals, items that are often thought of as solid or long-lasting will at some point crack or break. The artist invites the viewer to look closer at the objects contained within the body of work. From the shattered music box to the withered petals, a solemn air permeates through the still objects. Keep in mind that everything we own and experience is impermanent, this collection of paintings is a reminder to not be afraid of decay, but rather see the beauty it holds.
